Gennadi Prigoda is a swimmer who has competed for the Soviet Union and the Unified Team. He competed at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympic Games.
Prigoda was the top Soviet freestyle sprinter through the late 1980s. Throughout his Olympic career, he won a total of four medals (two silver and two bronze).
At his first Olympics in 1988, Prigoda helped the Soviets secure a silver in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay with a new European record time and added a bronze as a freestyle swimmer in the 4x100 metres medley relay. He also claimed his only individual bronze in the 50 metres freestyle, trailing the American duo of Thomas Jager and Matthew Biondi by 0.35 of a second.
Four years later in Barcelona, Prigoda returned to his second Games as part of the Unified Team. Though he failed to attain a medal in the sprint freestyle double (50 and 100), Prigoda and his teammates Iouri Bachkatov, Pavlo Khnykin, and Alexander Popov repeated their runner-up feat from Seoul with a silver in the 4x100 metres freestyle relay. Shortly after the Games, he retired from competitive swimming.
He is married to two-time breaststroker Elena Volkova and the father of two-time Olympian Kirill Prigoda.
