The men's ski cross of Freestyle Skiing 2018 during the 2018 Winter Olympics was held on 21 February 2018 in the Phoenix Snow Park. With 31 athletes competing, the event was won by Brady Leman from Canada, with Marc Bischofberger from Switzerland taking the silver medal and Sergey Ridzik from Olympic Athletes from Russia taking bronze.

Format

The competition exists out of a single course of 1370 metres. The competition consists of five different phases, with all competitors setting a time in the qualification. All athletes advance to the eighth finals, with the quarterfinals, semifinals, and final all head-to-head races between three or four athletes, with the first two advancing to the next round. The athlete with the fastest time in the final is the winner of the event.

Preview

Thirty-one athletes qualified for the event with a wide open field and plenty of action. Arnaud Bovolenta was the top seed and won a silver medal in Sochi four years prior. Third seed Victor Oehling Norberg was the reigning world champion, when he won in front of Jamie Prebble and Francois Place. The French athletes were very strong, aside from the top seed and Place also represented by fourth seed Terence Tchiknavorian and defending Olympic champion Jean Frederic Chapuis. Other medal contenders included second seed Armin Niederer, Viktor Andersson, and Brady Leman. However, with easy mistakes, Paul Eckert, Christoph Wahrstoetter, Alex Fiva, and Sergey Ridzik were in line to surprise.
