Football at the 1984 Summer Olympics was held from 29 July to 11 August 1984 at various locations in the United States (Pasadena and Palo Alto, California; Annapolis, Maryland; and Boston, Massachusetts).
For the first time, professional football players were permitted to compete in the Olympic tournament. As agreed with FIFA to preserve the primacy of the World Cup, the Olympic tournament in this edition was restricted to players with no more than five "A" caps at tournament start regardless of age.
