The ice dancing of Figure Skating 2014 during the 2014 Winter Olympics was held on 16-17 February 2014 in the Iceberg Skating Palace. With 24 pairs competing, the event was won by Meryl Davis and Charlie White from USA, with Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue from Canada taking the silver medal and Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katsalapov from Russia taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of two separate rounds. The first round allows the competitors to perform a routine of around 2:50 minutes, after which the athletes with the sixteen best scores perform another routine of around 4:00 minutes. The pair with the best score after two rounds is the winner.

Twenty-four pairs qualified for the event with the defending gold and silver medalists once again as big favorites. The American duo of Meryl Davis and Charlie White recently beat the Canadians Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir at the world championships with Ekaterina Bobrova/Dmitri Soloviev and Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte over 15 points behind them. Nathalie Pechalat/Fabian Bourzat was one of the pairs that had performed exceptionally well over the previous season, finished third in the Grand Prix finals, in front of Kaitlyn Weaver/Andrew Poje and the Russian and Italian duo. The other Americans Madison Chock/Evan Bates and Maia Shibutani/Alex Shibutani and Elena Ilinykh/Nikita Katsalapov were some of the outsiders for the medals.
