The pair skating of Figure Skating 2006 during the 2006 Winter Olympics was held on 11-13 February 2006 in the Palavela. With 20 pairs competing, the event was won by Maxim Marinin and Tatiana Totmianina from Russia, with Zhang Dan and Zhang Hao from China taking the silver medal and Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo from China taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of two separate rounds. The first round allows the competitors to perform a routine of a maximum 2:50 minutes, after which all pairs perform another routine of around 4:30 minutes. The pair with the best score after two rounds is the winner.

Twenty pairs qualified for the event with the Russian and Chinese pairs as the big favorites, after taking the top 5 positions at the most recent world championships. The pair of Tatiana Totmianina and Maxim Marinin were the reigning world champions, when they beat Maria Petrova/Alexei Tikhonov and Zhang Dan/Zhang Hao for gold. The other Russian duo consisted of Julia Obertas and Sergei Slanov, while the remaining Chinese pairs were made out of Pang Qing and Tong Jian and the defending bronze medalists Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo. Other potential outsiders were Aliona Savchenko/Robin Szolkowy and Dorota Zagorska/Mariusz Siudek.
