Olympics Wiki

Field Hockey at the 1996 Summer Olympics was held from 20 July to 2 August 1996 at the Herndon Stadium and Panther Stadium.

The men’s format remained similar with 12 teams separated into two groups of six teams. The top two teams in each group advanced to the semifinals after playing a round-robin. The women’s tournament was changed, as eight teams played instead a single, large round-robin tournament with the top two teams advancing to the gold medal match, and the third and fourth-ranked teams vying for the bronze medal.
