Federica Pellegrini is a swimmer who has competed for Italy. She competed at the 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympic Games.

Pellegrini started her Olympic career as a 16-year-old in Athens 2004. There, she claimed her first individual medal with a silver in the 200 metres freestyle, trailing the winner Camelia Potec by 0.16 of a second. With this feat, she became the youngest Italian athlete to ever win an Olympic medal in an individual event.

Four years later in Beijing, Pellegrini arrived as the world record holder and a top favorite for the gold in the 400 metres freestyle. After she blasted an Olympic record time (4:02.19) to lead the entire field in the heats, she slipped off the podium to fifth in the final. She recovered from an out-of-medal feat to break a new world record (1:55.45) for a top seed in the heats of the 200 metres freestyle. Then, she cleared a 1:55 barrier to lower her own record to 1:54.82 for her first gold in the final round, beating Sara Isaković by 0.16 of a second.

Pellegrini returned to her third Games as the defending champion of the 200 metres freestyle at London 2012. She struggled to reach her peak in the distance freestyle double, as she faded to fifth each in both the 200 and 400.

Pellegrini was selected to carry the Italian flag at the opening ceremony when she competed at her fourth straight Games in 2016. Once again, she missed the podium in her pet race by 0.26 of a second with a fourth place time of 1:55.18. Soon, she stated that failing to win an Olympic medal in the 200 metres freestyle final was so devastating for her that she may consider "making changes to her life".

At Tokyo 2020, Pellegrini set a historic mark as the first female swimmer to enter the fifth straight final in the same race, but she landed on the penultimate spot of the top eight field in 1:55.91. Shortly after the Games, she was elected to the International Olympic Committee's Athlete Commission.

She has been in a relationship with Luca Marin and Filippo Magnini.
