Estonia first participated as an independent country at the Olympic Games in 1920, although athletes might have appeared before as Russian Empire. Between 1948 and 1988, it competed as a part of Soviet Union. Since 1992, it once again appeared as independent.
Estonia has won 44 medals at the Olympic Games, of which 11 in Wrestling, and another 20 in Weightlifting, Cross-Country Skiing and Athletics.
The Estonian Olympic Committee was created in 1923 and recognized in 1924. After the invasion of the Soviet Union, the committee was reinstated in 1989, and recognized in 1991.
