Equestrian is a category name for the horseriding events at the Olympic Games. It is the only currently existing discipline that involves animals, and it is the only discipline with only mixed events. It's governed by the Fédération Équestre Internationale, which was founded in 1921.
During the 1956 Summer Olympics, the equestrian events were held in Stockholm, due to the quarantine requirements of animals in Australia.
Germany and the United States have both won the same amount of medals, although Germany has won twice as many gold medals.
