Dirk Korthals is a swimmer who has competed for West Germany. He competed at the 1984 Summer Olympic Games.

In the 4x200 metres freestyle relay, Korthals put on a blazing split on the second leg to catch the Americans near the front before he handed Alexander Schowtka his relay duties at the next exchange. Then, he witnessed Michael Groß exchange the lead with Lawrence Bruce Hayes at the final turn until the latter touched out Groß at the wall first, leaving Korthals, Schowtka, and Thomas Fahrner with a silver in 7:15.73. He also placed fourth in his other relay races and closed out the field of top eight finalists in the 100 metres freestyle.
