Dagmar Kersten is a gymnast who has competed for East Germany. She competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
Kersten helped the East German women secure a podium spot over their American rivals with a bronze in the team portion and added a silver on the uneven bars, trailing the winner Daniela Silivaș of Romania by a fraction of a point.
Kersten's gymnastics career was marred by the revelations of widespread performance-enhancing drugs used by East German athletes after the country's reunification. Without her knowledge, she was involved in the East German doping program until she has gone publicly in 2011 with accusations against her coach and physicians responsible for doping her during her sporting career. Admittedly, she was prescribed with oral turinobol to remedy her serious spine injury and other performance-enhancing drugs under the disguise of nutrition supplements.[1]
