The mixed tournament of Curling 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 2-8 February 2022 in the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. With 10 pairs competing, the event was won by Stefania Constantini and Amos Mosaner from Italy, with Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien from Norway taking the silver medal and Oskar Eriksson and Almida de Val from Sweden taking bronze.

Format

The competition exists out of a single round-robin, each team playing another once, with standings based on win/loss-record. The top four ranked teams advance to the semifinals, with the winners advancing to the final. The winner of the final wins the event.

Preview

After its successful introduction in 2018, the mixed curling event continued with now ten teams to have qualified, of which five defending medalists. John Morris was the defending champion but now competed alongside 2018 Olympian Rachel Homan, while Jenny Perret and Martin Rios defended their silver medals, and Magnus Nedregotten and Kristin Skaslien hoped to improve on their bronze medals. Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat were the reigning world champions, while Almida de Val and Oskar Eriksson took bronze at the most recent world championships after losing only once.

Tahli Gill was the youngest athlete to compete in the mixed curling competition, followed by Stefania Constantini and Almida de Val. They were also the only three athletes to be younger than 25 years old. John Morris and Martin Rios were the veterans of the field in terms of age, as the only two competitors older than 40 years. In eight out of ten pairs, the female competitor was younger than the male team member, with exceptions being defending bronze medalists Norway and defending silver medalists Switzerland. Oskar Eriksson made his fourth Olympic appearance, after having won medals in 2014 and 2018, while John Morris was also a two-time Olympic medalist from 2010 and 2018. Six athletes made their second Olympic appearance, including four defending medalists in the event. Rachel Homan and Amos Mosaner both competed in their respective competitions in 2018, finishing sixth and ninth in the women's and men's curling competition.

Results

Italy won its first-ever medal in the sport and immediately took a gold medal by staying undefeated throughout the competition. Where Amos Mosaner already finished ninth in the men's competition in 2018, Stefania Constantini won a medal at her Olympic debut. Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten improved on their 2018 result, when they took bronze after the Russian pair was disqualified for doping. With a silver medal, both took their second Olympic medals in their second Olympic appearance. Oskar Eriksson won his third Olympic medal in his fourth appearance after taking bronze together with Olympic debutant Almida de Val. Reigning world champions Jennifer Dodds and Bruce Mouat just missed out on the medals, while defending champion John Morris and 2018 Olympian Rachel Homan just missed out on the semifinals after tiebreaks.
