Cross-Country Skiing has been featured at every Winter Olympic Games. It is the biggest discipline of the Skiing program, with 12 events. Women have been allowed to compete since the 1952 Summer Olympics.
Scandinavian countries have won the majority of medals in cross-country skiing. Norway, Sweden and Finland have achieved a total of 281 out of a possible 508 medals, with Russia (and the Soviet Union) having won another 109 medals.
