The women's two of Bobsleigh 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 18-19 February 2022 in the Yanqing National Sliding Centre. With 20 pairs competing, the event was won by Deborah Levi and Laura Nolte from Germany, with Alexandra Burghardt and Mariama Jamanka from Germany taking the silver medal and Elana Meyers Taylor and Sylvia Hoffman from United States taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of four heats spread out over two days, with all teams taking part in all four heats. The team with the lowest aggregate time over two days is the winner.

Preview[]

Twenty athletes qualified for the event with the bob of Elana Meyers Taylor as the leader of the World Cup standings, ahead of the two German pairs piloted by Laura Nolte and Kim Kalicki, even though both were still juniors. Former teammates Christine de Bruin and Kaillie Humphries were now competing against each other, while pilot Mariama Jamanka could defend her title, and Nadezhda Sergeeva and Ying Qing could cause an upset.

Du Jiani was the youngest athlete to compete at the age of 22, and was only 2 weeks younger than Dawn Richardson Wilson and four months younger than Margot Boch, with all three making their Olympic debuts. Sara Aerts was the oldest competitor in the field at the age of 38 and was due to start at her third edition of the Olympic Games. She was nine months older than Elana Meyers Taylor and over a year older than Kaillie Humphries, the two top favorites for the event. The two Americans were also the veterans of the field, having had competed at three previous editions of the Olympic Games. Except for Aerts, Andreea Grecu and Nadezhda Sergeeva would also make their third Olympic appearances, with twenty-five athletes making their Olympic debuts. Aerts was also one of the few athletes to have competed at the Summer Olympic Games and the Winter Olympic Games, with Alexandra Burghardt having competed in athletics in 2021, and Montell Douglas having competed in athletics in 2008. Four out of the six defending medalists were featured in the field, including defending champion Mariama Jamanka and Lisa Buckwitz, Kaillie Humphries, and Elana Meyers Taylor.

Deborah Levi and Laura Nolte took gold at their Olympic debuts, with Nolte becoming the youngest-ever bobsleigh pilot to win the title in the women's two. They also became the second German pair to win gold in the event, after Lisa Buckwitz and Mariama Jamanka claimed gold in 2018. The latter took her second Olympic medal after claiming silver with Alexandra Burghardt, who just missed out on the medals in the 4x100 metres relay only six months prior. Elana Meyers Taylor won her fifth Olympic medal and fourth medal in the event, after also winning silver in the monobob, and became the most decorated athlete in the women's two. Sylvia Hoffman took bronze at her Olympic debut. Lisa Buckwitz just missed out on her second Olympic medal, with Kim Kalicki, Christine de Bruin, and Kristen Bujnowski also within a second from the medals.
