Preview[]
Thirty pairs qualified for the event with the German pair piloted by Francesco Friedrich (with Thorsten Margis) as the absolute favorite for the title. The sled had dominated the most recent World Cup season, winning seven out of eight races. The other German sleds piloted by Johannes Lochner and Christoph Hafer had performed very well too, with consistent podium results throughout the season, though the Canadian pair of Justin Kripps and the sled piloted by Rostislav Gaitiukevich had been very strong challengers for the Germans, both having finished not lower than eighth place, with Brad Hall, Michael Vogt, and defending bronze medalists Oskars Kibermanis as some of the potential outsiders.
Shakeel John was the youngest competitor aged 20 and one of only two athletes born after 1 January 2000, the other being Jelen Franjic, with both making their Olympic debuts. John was two years younger than Robert Mircea and Kim Hyeong-geun, who followed at the age of 22. On the other side, Edson Luques Bindilatti was the most experienced in the field, making his fifth Olympic appearance at the age of 42, though he was closely followed by Christopher Spring and Justin Kripps, who made their fourth edition of the Olympic Games at the age of 37 and 35, respectively. Twelve athletes were born before 1 January 1990, including defending medalists Justin Kripps and Thorsten Margis. Francesco Friedrich also tried to defend his Olympic title in a field with thirty-one debutants.

Results[]
Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis continued where they left off, winning their third Olympic title in a row, after winning the gold medal in the four-man in 2018 and sharing the title in the two-man in 2018. Johannes Lochner won his first Olympic medal after he finished fifth in the two-man in 2018 and eighth in the four-man, while Florian Bauer crowned his Olympic debut with a silver medal. Christoph Hafer and Matthias Sommer finished third in their debuts to create a clean sweep for Germany in the event, which would be the only medal sweep by a single nation at Beijing 2022. Sandro Michel and Michael Vogt just missed out on the podium by a quarter of a second, followed by Benjamin Maier and Markus Sammer, who improved on their performances of 2014 (20th) and 2018 (8th) to finish in the top 5 this time. Rudy Rinaldi and Boris Vain recorded the best-ever result for Monaco at the Olympic Games (summer and winter) by finishing sixth, while Mike Evelyn and Christopher Spring, as well as Rostislav Gaitiukevich and Aleksei Laptev, completed the top 8.
