The mixed relay of Biathlon 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 5 February 2022 in the Zhangjiakou National Biathlon Centre. With 20 teams competing, the event was won by the team from Norway, with France taking the silver medal and ROC taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of each athlete conducting three rounds of 2.0 kilometres, broken up by shooting at five targets. Each athlete has up to three additional shots for each round, and each missed target afterwards causes the athlete to have to conduct an additional round of 150 meters. The team with the fastest time after 4x6 kilometres is the winner.
Preview[]
Twenty teams qualified for the event with quite a few medal contenders though the favorite for gold seemed to be Norway after winning silver in 2018. Belarus and defending Olympic champions France also started from the first start row, but teams such as Sweden, Germany, and Italy also had big names in their lineup. Other potential medal contenders and outsiders also included ROC, Finland, and Austria.
Ziva Klemencic was the youngest athlete in the field at the age of 21, only a few months younger than Amy Baserga, as the only two athletes born after 1 January 2000, with both making their Olympic debuts. Simon Eder was the oldest competitor in the field, making his fourth Olympic appearance at the age of 38, and was almost three years older than Valentina Semerenko, who was the only athlete in the field to make her fifth edition of the Olympic Games, and Susan Dunklee, with ten other athletes having been born before 1 January 1990.
Results[]
