Benny Nielsen is a swimmer who has competed for Denmark. He competed at the 1988 Summer Olympic Games.
Among four of his registered swimming events at Seoul 1988, the 200 metres butterfly race turned out to be the highest point of Nielsen's brief sporting career. He entered the final with the fourth-fastest time from the prelims and a new Danish record, facing against the West German favorite Michael Groß, the fastest of the field. Rallying from fourth at the 150-metre mark, Nielsen produced a late surge to nearly upset Groß towards a close finish, but he ended up taking the silver and lowered his own record time of 1:58.24.
He is the father of Rio de Janeiro 2016 bronze medalist Mie Nielsen.
