The National Stadium (北京国家体育场) in Beijing, China, which is often known as "The Bird's Nest" (鸟巢) due to its shape and design, is a multi-sport venue, which was built in preparation for the Olympic Games of 2008. In 2008, it hosted the athletics events, as well as some football matches, and the stadium was used as the main setting for the opening and closing ceremonies for 2008 and 2022, becoming the first stadium in the world to host both the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. During the 2008 Olympic Games, the stadium had a capacity of 91,000, but it was decreased to 80,000 after the multi-sport event in 2008.
