Basketball was introduced during the 1936 Summer Olympics, but it was held as a demonstration event during the 1904 Summer Olympics and the 1924 Summer Olympics. It has only changed its program twice, by adding the women's tournament during Montreal 1976, and by adding a 3vs3 version in Tokyo 2020.
United States is only one of two current nations to have won a gold medal in the Basketball events, the other one being Argentina, which won the gold medal in Athens. The United States has shown to be a dominant nation, winning all but two possible medals.
