The women's singles of Badminton 2024 during the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 27 July–5 August 2024 in the Porte de La Chapelle Arena. With 39 athletes competing, the event was won by An Se-young from South Korea, with He Bingjiao from China taking the silver medal and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung from Indonesia taking bronze.

Format

The competition exists out of thirteen groups of three in a round-robin format, with each athlete playing another once. Matches were played best-of-three games. Each game was played to 21, except that a player must win by two unless the score reaches 30–29. The top player in each group advances to the knock-out rounds. The knockout stage was a four-round single elimination tournament with a bronze medal match. The player to score two sets in the final wins the event.

Preview

Thirty-nine athletes qualified for the event with plenty of medal contenders. An Se-young was the reigning world champion and seemed to become a top favorite for the title, beating two Olympic champions Chen Yufei from 2020 and Carolina Marin from 2016 at the most recent world championships.
