Olympics Wiki

The men's singles of Badminton 2024 during the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 27 July–5 August 2024 in the Porte de La Chapelle Arena. With 41 athletes competing, the event was won by Viktor Axelsen from Denmark, with Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand taking the silver medal and Zii Jia Lee from Malaysia taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of thirteen groups of three or four in a round-robin format, with each athlete playing another once. Matches were played best-of-three games. Each game was played to 21, except that a player must win by two unless the score reaches 30–29. The top player in each group advances to the knock-out rounds. The knockout stage was a four-round single elimination tournament with a bronze medal match. The player to score two sets in the final wins the event.

Preview[]

Forty-one athletes qualified for the event with world number one and defending Olympic champion Viktor Axelsen as absolute favorite for the title. His major challengers seemed to be the reigning world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn and the Chinese duo of Shi Yuqi and Li Shifeng.
