The women's marathon of Athletics 2024 during the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 11 August 2024 in the Hotel de Ville and Invalides. With 91 athletes competing, the event was won by Sifan Hassan from Netherlands, with Tigst Assefa from Ethiopia taking the silver medal and Hellen Obiri from Kenya taking bronze.
Format[]
The competition exists out of a single race, in which all competitors conduct a course of 42195 metres. The competitor with the fastest time is the winner of the event.
Preview[]
Ninety-one athletes qualified for the event's fortieth anniversary with the runners from Ethiopia and Kenya likely fighting for the medals. Ethiopia seemed to have higher chances for the title with Tigst Assefa as the world record holder and Amane Beriso Shankule as the reigning world champion.
