Olympics Wiki

The men's discus throw of Athletics 2024 during the 2024 Summer Olympics was held on 5–7 August 2024 in the Stade de France. With 32 athletes competing, the event was won by Roje Stona from Jamaica, with Mykolas Alekna from Lithuania taking the silver medal and Matthew Denny from Australia taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of two separate rounds. In the qualification, each competitor gets three attempts to throw a discus as far as possible. After three attempts, the twelve best performance advance to the final, including athletes tied for twelfth place. In the final, the qualified athletes once again get three attempts to reach as far as possible, but contrary to the qualification, the eight best-placed athletes get another three attempts. The athlete with the farthest throw wins the event.

Preview[]

Thirty-two athletes qualified for the event with the reigning European champion and 2023 world bronze medalist Mykolas Alekna aiming to follow his father's success of winning the title after breaking a new world record that had stood for almost four decades. He is expected to challenge the defending Olympic champion and reigning world champion Daniel Stahl, one of the top favorites for the title.
