The men's 110 metre hurdles of Athletics 2016 during the 2016 Summer Olympics was held on 15-16 August 2016 in the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Stadium. With 40 athletes competing, the event was won by Omar McLeod from Jamaica, with Orlando Ortega from Spain taking the silver medal and Dimitri Bascou from France taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of three rounds, each with races of up to nine athletes. In each round, the top two with the fastest time advance to the next round, together with a number of fastest non-qualifiers. The fastest competitor in the final is the winner of the event.

Preview[]

Forty athletes qualified for the event with Omar McLeod as the only athlete to have run under 13 seconds in the year. He was closely followed by Devon Allen and Orlando Ortega, but in a traditionally strong event for the United States, defending bronze medalist Hansle Parchment was the second athlete for Jamaica within the top four to contend for the medals. Pascal Martinot-Lagarde finished fourth at the world championships, behind Sergey Shubenkov, who was banned from competing, Parchment, and defending Olympic champion Aries Merritt, who was not selected. Other big medal contenders and outsiders were Dimitri Bascou, Andrew Pozzi, Deuce Carter, and Johnathan Cabral.
