Athletics at the 2000 Summer Olympics was held from 22 September to 1 October 2000 at the Stadium Australia.
For the first time in history, women competed in the pole vault and hammer throw. For the racewalking events, the women's distance increased to 20 kilometres, almost equivalent to those on the men's side.
