Andre de Grasse is a track and field athlete who has competed for Canada. He competed at the 2016, 2020, and 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
De Grasse set a historic record at his first Games in 2016 when he became the first Canadian sprinter to win three medals in a single edition, surpassing Donovan Bailey and Percy Williams with two. He recorded his own personal best to claim a bronze for the first time in two decades, finishing behind the winner Usain Bolt and runner-up Justin Gatlin by the narrowest margins. He also added a silver in the 200 metres dash behind Bolt once again. With this feat, he became the first Canadian to ascend the podium in the event's history after almost nine decades. De Grasse anchored the 4x100 metres relay squad to a bronze with a Canadian record time of 37.64, breaking the 20-year-old mark set by Bailey's team from Atlanta 1996.
Five years later in Tokyo, de Grasse returned to his second Games as one of Canada's top medal contenders in the sprint track events, following Bolt's retirement in 2017. He scratched his own existing national record of 19.62 to end the 25-year-old drought with a gold in the 200 metres dash. De Grasse's success followed him repeating a bronze in the 100 metres, lowering his wind-legal personal best to 9.89. He also ran the anchor leg of the 4x100 metres relay to help the Canadian men snare their podium spot with a bronze, but their medal was eventually upgraded to silver when the British squad was disqualified for doping.
At his third Games in 2024, de Grasse was selected to carry the Canadian flag during the Paris 2024 opening ceremony with Maude Charron.
He is married to hurdler and two-time Olympian Nia Ali.
