The women's alpine combined of Alpine Skiing 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 17 February 2022 in the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre. With 26 athletes competing, the event was won by Michelle Gisin from Switzerland, with Wendy Holdener from Switzerland taking the silver medal and Federica Brignone from Italy taking bronze.

Format[]

The competition exists out of two races. First, a speed discipline is conducted with a downhill course. After the downhill event, a slalom event is scheduled. The competitor with the fastest combined time without missing any of the gates is the winner.

Preview[]

Twenty-six athletes qualified for the event with Federica Brignone as the leader of the world rankings, Michelle Gisin as defending Olympic champion, and Mikaela Shiffrin as reigning world champion, though there were quite a few others who would contend for the medals. Marta Bassino and defending bronze medalist Wendy Holdener were in the top 10 of the World Cup rankings, while Ramona Siebenhofer, Elena Curtoni, and Christine Scheyer were some of the outsiders for the medals.

Cande Moreno was the youngest athlete to compete and the only athlete born after 1 January 2000, just over a year younger than 2018 Olympian Elvedina Muzaferija and Keely Cashman. Marusa Ferk Saioni was the veteran of the field, competing at the age of 33 at her fourth edition of the Olympic Games, with Federica Brignone and Nevena Ignjatovic reaching the same milestone at the age of 31. Greta Small, Michelle Gisin, Wendy Holdener, and Mikaela Shiffrin made their third appearance at the Olympic Games, with nine athletes making their debuts. The 2018 medalists Michelle Gisin, Mikaela Shiffrin, and Wendy Holdener all competed to defend or even improve on their 2018 results.

Results[]

Michelle Gisin successfully defended her Olympic title in the alpine combined, and became the third consecutive Olympic champion to do so, after Janica Kostelic in 2002 and 2006, and Maria Hoefl-Riesch in 2010 and 2014. Wendy Holdener won her fifth Olympic medal in three editions of the Olympic Games, and improved on her alpine combined result of 2018 when she won bronze. Federica Brignone won bronze in the alpine combined, after winning bronze in giant slalom in 2018 and silver in the giant slalom in 2022, having made Olympic appearances since 2010. Ester Ledecka just missed out on the unique achievement to win Olympic medals in different sports in the same year for the second time in a row, after she won gold medals in alpine skiing and snowboarding in 2018, and a gold medal in snowboarding only a week prior. Katharina Huber was the best debutante finishing in the top 5 at her first Olympic Games, followed by her team mates Christine Scheyer and Ramona Siebenhofer to complete the top 7.
