The mixed team event of Alpine Skiing 2022 during the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 19-20 February 2018 in the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Centre. With 15 teams competing, the event was won by the team from Austria, with Germany taking the silver medal and Norway taking bronze.

Format[]

This competition exists out of four knock-out rounds. The seeding was determined beforehand, and the competition followed a "traditional" knock-out system. Each team chooses four skiers to go head-to-head with another competitor, with each winner winning a point for the team. The team with the most points wins the round. If both teams are tied after four races, the time of the best woman and the best man are essential; the faster total of these two times wins the round.

Preview[]

Fifteen teams qualified for the second edition of the parallel team event with Austria as top seed and one of the big favorites for the title. Switzerland seemed to be the biggest challenger as second seed as defending Olympic champions, and having won medals in three out of four individual slalom events. Italy was the third seed byt Norway won bronze in 2018, with France and Slovakia winning gold in the individual events. Other potential outsiders included United States, Germany, and Slovenia.

Emma Aicher was the youngest competitor at the age of 18, and was almost three months younger than Rebeka Jancova, and a year younger than Hanna Aronsson Elfman. Elese Sommerova, Magdalena Luczak, and Cassidy Gray were the other skiers born in the 21st century. Krystof Kryzl was the oldest athlete in the field, making his fourth Olympic appearance at the age of 35, and was four years older than Tommy Ford and Tessa Worley, due to make their third Olympic appearances. Erin Mielzynski and Federica Brignone also made their fourth Olympic appearances in 2022, leading the charge with experience in the field.

Austria won the second edition of the mixed team event, after the team won silver in 2018. The top seeds competed with a few names who had not competed in 2018, though Katharina Liensberger and Michael Matt remained to win their second Olympic medal in the event. Johannes Strolz also won his third Olympic medal in Beijing, after winning the title in the alpine combined and winning the silver medal in the slalom. Katharina Liensberger also won her second medal in 2022 after her silver medal in the women's slalom. Germany won the silver medal in the event, though none of the skiers in the team had won medals in the individual events, thus all Germany skiers winning their first Olympic medals. The Norwegian that which won bronze also won their first Olympic medals, though Norwegian skiers had won medals in the previous few days, and none of the team members remained from their bronze medal in 2018. The United States finished just outside of the medals by half a second difference to Norway, while France, 2018 Olympic champions Switzerland, Slovenia, and Italy having lost in the quarterfinals.
